Many hands make light work.
Because the legacies of colonialism, enslavement, and systemic oppression have tilted the scales of access against African and indigenous descended people, other people of color, all genders besides cis men, undocumented people, and people with varied physical and cognitive abilities, I find it necessary to account for this when engaging in financial exchange. I want my offerings to be utilized by people most often denied access, so I create greater access for those people by how I set prices and structure exchange. My rates are often situated on a scale that allows you to pay at your level of access on that scale. I often will offer for certain populations to pay by donation while others pay on a specified scale. It’s important to me that I get creative to increase accessibility to my work. I never turn anyone away because of lack of resources, and I continually invite donations widely to ensure that my needs are met and to cover the rates of people who are unable to pay. There are more than enough resources to go around, and many hands can make much lighter work.
In any case, I make community offerings whether I am guaranteed full payment or not because it is my work to do. I rely on the collective care of people who have greater access to resources to support my work via Patreon, exchange for grief ritual attendance, and one-time donations. Please consider this as you explore my work and share about it with others. My work is primarily funded by good-hearted people like you. If you’re able, please consider supporting the work.
